Week 13: Russian – Beef Stroganoff

I’ve made stroganoff before, but it’s been a very long time.  My purpose this week was to try a new stroganoff recipe that I could possibly add to our regular dinner rotation. I decided to go with this recipe from Tyler Florence.

I thought that the mushrooms could have cooked a little longer, but I really hate the texture of mushrooms in general.  The more they cook down, the less squishy they are.  Adam liked it a bit, but it wasn’t fantastic.

Week 12: Cheese – Queso Blanco Dip

I love cheese.  I remember a certain encounter retreat that our church had several years back.  There was a young man from Cameroon with us who commented on the meals we prepared for the retreat, saying that Americans seem to put cheese on everything.  Appropriately, we passed a billboard on the way home that said, “Ah, the power of cheese.”

So for cheese week, I decided to prepare this Queso Blanco Dip recipe from Two Peas and Their Pod.

It was easy and quite tasty. I don’t usually like American cheese, but there is enough good stuff in this dip to make up for it.

52 Weeks of Cooking – Week 11: Breakfast – Cinnamon Baked French Toast

So.  You may have noticed that I haven’t posted in quite some time.  I blame first my third trimester of pregnancy.  Second, I blame having a newborn.  And third I blame my own forgetfulness.  I’ve decided that trying to do 52 weeks of cooking AND baking is too much for me, so I will only be doing the cooking challenges from here on out.

I have still been cooking the theme weeks (though perhaps not on the actual week they’re supposed to be cooked), and I have a lot of back posts to get through.  I will try to publish one post per day until I get caught up.


This is the Pioneer Woman’s Cinnamon Baked French Toast.  It’s been so long since I cooked this that I don’t remember it much.  I do remember that it was quite easy to prepare.  If you want to have an easy breakfast on a Saturday morning, prepare this the night before and let it sit in the fridge overnight.  Pop it in the oven in the morning for a no-fuss treat!

Hubby’s ranking: He doesn’t remember it…too long ago!

My ranking: I didn’t actually eat it…I had some morning sickness going on!
